Abstract:
The molecular structures of a series of solvents with similar solubility parameters to those of normal sulfur were determined with the help of the literatures and group contribution method. Their solubilities for normal sulfur were determined. The results show that the solubility for sulfur cannot be judged solely by its solubility parameters. The group contribution method is unsuitable for the isomers of solvents. For the same type of solvents, the closer their solubility parameters to those of sulfur, the larger are their solubilities for sulfur. HHS-1 and HBS-2 with cyclic structure as well as MA, a polyhalogenated aromatic, are hopeful to replace carbon disulfide as extractant for insoluble sulfur.
