Abstract:
Controlled synthesis of vaterite calcium carbonate (V-CaCO3) in the mixture of Ca(CH3COO)2 and NaHCO3 solutions by using ethylene glycol-H2O (EG-H2O) as solvent was investigated. The crystal form and morphology of CaCO3 were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effects of reaction temperature, stirring speed and the volume fraction of EG on the growth of crystals and crystal form were observed. The results showed that V-CaCO3 was synthesized in EG-H2O system at mild temperature, and the controllable growth of V-CaCO3 was easily obtained by controlling the temperature, stirring speed and the content of EG.
