Copolymers of Styrene and Quarternary Complex of Rare Earth Europium with Benzene Carboxylic Acid, Acrylic Acid and Phenanthroline

Copolymers containing rare earth complex were prepared by copolymerizing europium quarternary complex Eu~(3 )(BA)_2(AA)(phen) with styrene.A semitransparent,luminescent polymeric material with high fluorescent intensity was obtained;the GPC,IR and UV spectra suggested that it was a true copolymer.The copolymer samples exhibited the intense UV absorption characteristics of the rare earth complex and emitted characteristic fluorescence of Eu~(3 ) even when w_(Eu~(3 )) was as low as 0.004 5.The copolymer was more thermally stable than the starting materials.
