Abstract
Based on the principle of the strain energy in fatigue, two equations for the prediction of low-cycle fatigue life were derived. Using regular mechanical property data of metallic materials, the low-cycle fatigue life in different strain amplitudes can be predicted. The relationship between low-cycle fatigue resistance and regular mechanical properties was also discussed. The chief factors affecting the low-cycle fatigue life were pointed out too. Lastly, some proposals on the selection of materials are proposed.
