Analysis of tar from Lurgi pressurized coal gasification by GC and GC-MS

Five fractions of tar produced from Lurgi pressurized coal gasification were separated and analyzed by using glass capillary chromatography atnd gas chromato-graphy-mass spectrometry. 197 constituents including alkyl and aromatic hydrocarbons and compounds containing O, N and S have been identified. The analytical results illustrate that the composition of the sample of interest is quite different from that of high-temperature coal tar, and it contains more varieties of alkyl compounds but lees polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons than the latter does. Satisfactory results can be obtaind by using the silicon oil capillary columns (non-polarity or weak-polarity).
