Effects of Lactate on Growth and Metabolism of Marine Fish CHSE Cells

    • Growth and main metabolism features of chinook salmon embryo (CHSE) cells were not (affected) at 1.1~6.14 mmol/L of lactate, corresponding to medium osmotic pressure of 644~673 kPa. Higher lactate concentrations such as 13.1~41.58 mmol/L, corresponding to medium osmotic pressure of (701~944) kPa, inhibited CHSE cell growth and changed their metabolism. Inhibition of (CHSE) cell growth by lactate was mainly caused by the decline of pH and the increase of osmotic pressure in medium. CHSE cells could bear the lactate level as high as 7 mmol/L and grow regularly under a stable and neutral pH condition.
