    Synthesis of High Molecular Weight Poly(oxy-1,4-phenyleneterephthaloyl- 1,4 - phenylene)

    • By the Friedel-Crafts electrophilic substitution of diphenyl ether and terephthaloyl chloride, with 1,2-dichloroethane as solvent, AlCl_3 as catalyst and Lewis alkali as additive, high molecuhr weight title product i. e. polyaryletherketone, PEK with intrinsic viscosities ranging from 0.8 to 1.65 was prepared. The optimum initial concentration of the monomer is 7% (wt/v), the reaction time is more than 14h, the amount of AlCl_3 is 150% of the theoretical amount.
