Development and Application of a Novel Fixed Bed Bioreactor with Porous Ceramic Plate

A novel fixed bed bioreactor packed with porous ceramic plates was designed. Com pared with a conventional fixed bed bioreactor, it bears some advantages, such a s better oxygen transfer ability and homogeneous inoculation. The fluid flow and gas liquid transfer in the bioreactor were simulatively investigated and its oxyge n transfer ability was shown, by calculation, to meet the demand of oxygen consu mption in Streptomyces fermentation.
