Abstract
The morphology and the thermal behavior of the blends of nylon 6 with poly (p-benzamide) (PBA) were investigated by the use of polarizing microscope, DTA, SEM, and XRD. It was found that the ternary mixtures of PBA, nylon 6 and H_2SO_4 exhibited an anisotropic phase above a critical concentration. PBA might induce nylon 6 to crystallize in both anisotropic and isotropic state and resulted in a cocrystallization. It was also observed that spherulites grown in the isotropic solution of PBA/nylon 6 in H_2SO_4 were betterdeveloped than that grown in anisotropic solution, and no clear Maltese cross pattern was viewed from the latter. The DTA heating curves of the blends from anisotropic solutions exhibited higher melting points than that from isotropic solutions. The scanning electron microscope and X-ray analysis of polyblends were also performed.
