Behavior of Trace Elements Bromine and Iodine during Coal Combustion Process

    • A sampling and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICPMS) analysis procedure was described for determining bromine and iodine concentrations of vaporphase, particulate matter and residue in the simulative combustion in a small stove. The effects of the combustion temperature and combustion atmosphere on the release of bromine and iodine were investigated. Experimental results showed that the release of bromine and iodine increased with an increase of temperature, decreased with the increase of oxygen concentration. At the given experimental condition, iodine was observed almost entirely in the vapor phase, while bromine was observed dominantly in the vapor phase and particulate matter, as well as in residue, respectively. Solid additives could capture bromine and iodine effectively during coal combustion process.
