Synthesis of NanoSized Spherical β-Cyclodextrin Brushes and Their Application in Phenol Removal

    • Nanosized spherical βcyclodextrin (βCD) brushes were synthesized by photoemulsion polymerization using polystyrene (PS) as the core and modified cyclodextrin polymer as the shell. The adsorption amount of phenol and the size of βCD brush were determined by UVvisible spectrophotometry and dynamic light scattering (DLS), respectively. Nanosized spherical βCD brushes were with narrow size distribution and confirmed by monitoring the size increase of PS core. Since βCD can selectively form hostguest association with phenol, the obtained nanosized spherical βCD brushes should be an ideal candidate for removal of trace amount of phenols from wastewater.
