Chlorodiphenylbromomethane, prepared by the bromination following the Friedel-Crafts reaction of benzene with p-chlorobenzyl chloride, underwent the reaction sequences of two condensations, and salt formation with hydrochloric acid to obtain cetirizine hydrochloride with an overall yield of 29%.
