Structure Control of CNFs/Cordierite Monolith as Catalyst Support

    • As catalyst carriers, carbon nanofibers(CNFs) were grown on Al2O3coated cordierite monolith by using Ni as catalyst and ethylene as carbon source. The effect of growth conditions on the yield and morphology of CNFs was investigated. Results show that at the temperature range of 450—650 ℃, the yield of synthesized CNFs increases with increasing growth temperature from 450 ℃ to 550 ℃ but decreases with further increasing growth temperature to 650 ℃. With increasing growth time from 5 min to 30 min, the CNFs yield increases from 4.9% to 12.5%, while the growth of CNFs is leveled out after 30 min. The yield of CNFs is improved by increasing volume ratio of C2H4 to H2 in the feed gas. Under the optimal growth conditions with VC2H4∶VH2=160∶40 at 500 ℃ for 30 min, the yield of synthesized CNFs reaches 12.5%, and the CNFs/cordierite monolith obtained exhibits a compressive strength of 34.46 MPa.
