The solvophobic property of diluents has a great influence on the extraction of formic acid with tertiary amine N 235. It was found that, the larger polarity, the less solvophobic property of the diluents and the special interaction forces forming the solvolyte of amine salt ion pairs are beneficial to the extraction of formic acid.
