    Synthesis and Characterization of Polybutadiene-Grafted- Poly (methyl-methylacrylate) Copolymers

    • A novel macromolecule surface modifier,polybutadiene grafted(poly(methyl) methylacrylate) was synthesized by esterification of maleated polybutadiene with monohydroxyl-terminated poly(methyl methylacrylate) using maleic anhydride as "cross linking agent".The effects of reaction conditions were investigated. The structure and thermal stability of graft copolymers were characterized by IR,NMR and TGA.The results show that the thermal stability of PB-g-PMMA decrease with increasing the content of PMMA and the molecule weight of PMMA.The copolymers were used to blend with polypropylene to modify the surface hydrophilicity of the products.The results of ATR-FTIR and gradient ATR-FTIR indicate that PB-g-PMMA could diffuse preferably onto the surface of the blends and be suitable as a macromolecular surface modifier for PP.
