    Simulation Correction for Swirl Flow in a Stirred Tank

    • The turbulent flow field generated in a baffled stirred tank with a Rushton turbine was simulated by standard κ-ε model and swirl correction κ-ε model. The spatial discretization of the governing equations was solved on a cylindrical staggered grid. The coupling equations of pressure and velocities were solved with the SIMPLE algorithm. Interaction between the rotating impeller and the static baffles was considered by improving inner-outer iterative algorithm. The calculated results were compared with the experimental data of literature, which showed that in the impeller-swept region, swirl correction κ-ε model gave much better results than standard κ-ε model, and in the cycling zones, swirl correction κ-ε model played less role comparing to that in the impellerswept region.
