Abstract
The polypeptide chains of a protein form various special three dimensional structures.Hydrogen bond plays an important role in maintaining the structures. We studied the secondary structures of a protein and the function of hydrogen bond in maintaining the structures by the aid of IR spectra. It is found that a trans structure is the major characteristic arrangement in polypeptide chains with helix and cheet structures.
