Purification and Reclamation of Pentose from Biomass Hydrolization Fermentation Broth

Nanofiltration(NF) was employed to recover pentose present in the waste hydrolyzed biomass fermentation broth,and reverse osmosis(RO) treatment followed to concentrate the pentose in the NF permeate stream.The NF time profiles of xylose recovery,salt rejection,and NF flux as well as the RO time profiles of xylose concentration of the reject stream and conductance of permeate water and the effects of temperature and pressure on the RO flux are presented.Up to 85% of xylose in the waste fermentation broth was recovered by NF;the RO treatment produced a valuable concentrate xylose solution and a clean reusable water.
