Photopromoted Reducing Degradation of Organic Pollutants by Electrogalvanizing Zinc Plate

    • Electrogalvanizing zinc plate was used to degrade the organic pollutants in wastewater. Reducing degradation rates of azo dyes and chloroorganics by the electrogalvanizing zinc plate were greatly increased under the irradiation of an iodinetungsten lamp. Measurement results of degradation activities of various organic pollutants by electrogalvanizing zinc plate and XPS show that the reducing degradation of azo dyes and chloro-organics under irradiation also follows general laws of zero-valent metal reduction. It is supposed that the irradiation light accelerates the electric transfer process between the organics and Zn0 via the excitation of the organic molecule or a possible organic-Zn0 complex. The endurance of the reducing degradation activity of electrogalvanizing zinc plate is pretty well, and no obvious change is found after several times usage.
