Performance and Improvement of the Turbine-Agitated Extraction Column

The operation characteristics of a Kuhni column and the effect of compartment height on the behaviour of the column were investigated. In order to increase the throughput of the Kuhni column, a mild pulsation was introduced in the operation, and the behaviour of the pulsed Kuhni column (PKC) was studied. It was found that the throughput is increased by a factor of 2 after the introduction of the pulsation. The operational performance of the PKC is better than the normal one. It is suggested that the PKC can be used as an improved extraction column.
