Abstract
This paper studied high density suspension cultures of Taxus chinensis cells in both a 250 mL shake flask and a 1.5 L stirred bioreactor. In both cultivation vessels, a cell concentration of more than 25g/L was reached after 20 days of cultivation by sucrose feeding in the later stage of exponential growth phase. The production of taxane diterpene (taxuyunnanine C) was quite low in a batch bioreactor cultivation. Hight density cultivation could evidently increase the cell concentration and also enhance the production of the taxane in the bioreactor.
