    Isolation,Purification and Structural Features of Polysaccharide MPA-1 from Mulberry Leaves

    • A homogeneous polysaccharide MPA-1 was for the first time obtained from the alkali extract of mulberry leaves by DEAEcellulose and gel filtration chromatography. MPA-1 with a molecular mass of 1.1×105 consist of glucose. A combination of linkage analysis, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectra analysis revealed that MPA-1 possess a α-(1→4)glucan backbone and the side chains attached to the O-3, O-2 of glucose residues, including terminal, 1,6-linked glucose.
