Process Simulation and Analysis of Acetylene Production from Coal-Bed Methane

    • In order to alleviate the high pollution and high energy consumption of the calcium carbide method for acetylene production, and to promote the partial oxidation of methane process, while improving the utilization rate of domestic coal-bed methane (CBM), this paper proposes a process for producing acetylene using partial oxidation of CBM as a raw material. This process is combined with the ethanolamine (MEA) CO2 absorption process, and the model is built using Aspen Plus software. Full simulation, including sensitivity analysis, economic analysis, and carbon emission analysis of the process is performed. The results show that this process can meet an annual production of 3×104 t of acetylene with a purity greater than 99%, and the cost of acetylene is 12423.73 CNY/t. It can also produce 1.86×104 t/a of hydrogen with a purity of 99.99%, demonstrating good overall economic benefits. The carbon emission analysis shows that this process emits 3048.66 kg of CO2 per ton of acetylene produced, which is only 46.5% of 6560 kg produced by the mainstream calcium carbide method.
