Abstract
Mn3O4-coated electrodes were prepared by ultrasonic dispersion method and sol dipping method. They were used as the anodes of the microbial fuel cells (MFC) to study the effects of the modified methods of Mn3O4-coated anodes on electricity production. The results showed that the maximum power density of the MFC with ultrasonic dispersed Mn3O4-coated anode was 0. 172 W/m2, 22% lower than the bare anode. The electron transfer of the exoelectrogen was inhibited on the electrode. The maximum power density of the MFC with sol dipped Mn3O4-coated anode was 0. 431 W/m2, 93% higher than that of the bare anode. The charge transfer resistance was decreased by 67%. The sol dipped Mn3O4-coated anode exhibited pseudocapacitive property.
