Abstract:
Poly(methyl acrylic acid)/Laponite nanocomposite hydrogels were successfully synthesized via
in situ free-radical polymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) in aqueous solutions of Laponite. The transparent hydrogels presented good adhesive properties for both hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces. The adhesive properties of the hydrogels were revealed from both the views of microscopic and macroscopic by the employment of the self-developed Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR) instrument, rheology, and 180° peel strength measurements. This study suggested that poly(methyl acrylic acid)/Laponite nanocomposite hydrogel should be a candidate material which presented promising applications in the field of denture adhesive.
