Abstract:
The carbonation experiments of soda manufactured by amine method were made in a stirring and bubbling reactor. The effects of other substances of brine such as CaCl_2, MgCl_2, KCl, Na_2SO_4, CaCO_3 and MgCO_3 on the carbonation of sodium chloride solution were discussed. The sequence of carbonation was obtained as follows: CaCl_2>MgCl_2>NaCl>KCl. The temperature effects on the carbonation of brine and pure sodium chloride solution and on the sizes of sodium bicarbonate were investigated. The possibility of eliminating the gas bubbles at the liquid-liquid interface by silicon oil was discussed. It was pointed that Ca~(2+) and Mg~(2+) must be removed in the manufacturing of soda by amine method. The theoretical basis was provided for improving sodium bicarbonate crystals.
