Abstract:
Chitosan is a linear
β-(1→4)-linked copolymer of anhydro-
d-glucosamine and anhydro-
N-acetyl-
d-glucosamine. Owing to its biocompatibility, biodegradability and bioactivity, it is becoming a very attractive substance for diverse applications as a biomaterial in pharmaceutical and medical fields. In this study, the potential of chitosan microparticles and nanoparticles as fish vaccine adjuvants was evaluated using zebrafish model. Chitosan microparticles were found to be equipotent to commerical animal adjuvant Montanide ISA 763A in terms of immune effect and much safer.
