Abstract:
The selective extraction of zinc from chloride leaching solutions of smithsonite which contains chiefly zinc, cadmium, iron and lead has been investigated. A new hydrometallurgical process of producing zinc through leaching-extraction-electrowinning has been proposed. Zinc is extracted into organic phase by tri-n-butylphosphate in kerosene. The zinccontaining organic phase is scrubbed and stripped by electrolyte and used electrolyte respectively. The solution of back-extraction is conducted to a diaphragm cell for zinc electrolysis.
