Abstract:
The structure and design methods of a new premium threaded high torque drill pipe connection HLBT 8A are described in this paper. The maximum yield make up torque of the new tool joint was calculated approximately. By using the finite elements method, the threading up characteristics of the connection were analyzed, especially the torque taken by main shoulder, deputy shoulder and thread. Finally, the make up torque turns curve was obtained, and it is verified by the full scale test. Calculation and testing results show that this new type tool joint has the advanced thread form, reasonable structure of shoulders, excellent torsion capacity, and reasonable stress distribution. It is helpful for the development of special thread drill pipe connection to meet the engineering acquirement.
