Abstract:
Sodium acrylate grafted polypropylene wax was synthesized by solution technique, and its thermal stability and crystallization behavior were characterized. Composites of PET and sodium acrylate grafted polypropylene wax (ionomer) were prepared by melt-blending. The effect of ionomer on crystallization and morphology of PET/ionomer composites was investigated by DSC and SEM. The results show that PET is heterogeneously nucleated after introduction of sodium acrylate grafted polypropylene wax, the melt-crystallization temperature of PET increased from 196.9 °C to 210.6 °C and the cold-crystallization temperature decreased from 135.5 °C to 124.2 °C. The compatibility between PET and sodium acrylate grafted polypropylene wax is better than that of PET and polypropylene wax.
