Abstract:
Polymethylphenylsilanes were synthesized from methylphenyl dichloroorganosilane by using two different kinds of methods, Wurtz-coupling and the low-valent titanium reagent. The results showed that using the lowvalent titanium reagent could get polymethylphenylsilanes with narrow molecular weight distribution(Mn=16 860,Mw/Mn=1.6).The polymethylphenylsilanes could react with chloromethyl methyl ether in chloroform in the presence of SnCl4 to get chloromethylphenyl methyl silanes, but its mean molecular weight was reduced to Mn=5 630 and the reaction yield was only 12%.
