Abstract:
Eight alkoxy phenylaminoanthraquinone derivatives were synthesized via Ullmann condensation reaction of aminoanthraquinones and 4 bromoalkoxybenzene in nitrobenzene using Cu/CuCl as a catalyst. Their structures were characterized by 1H NMR and mass spetrometry. They were added into a specific smectic phase liquid crystal as a colorant, respectively, and their solubility, store stability and the transmittances in haze and transparent states as well as driving speed in the liquid crystal were measured. The results indicate that they have good solubilities in the smectic phase liquid crystal, with fast driving speed and the larger contrasts of the transmittances in both haze and transparent states, implying that they could meet the requirements for color display in the smectic phase liquid crystal.
