Abstract:
MgO C brick, a kind of new basic refractory, is remarkably influenced by the quality of binders. Mesophase pitch is proposed to be used as a binder to replace phenolic resin. The proper mesophase pitch was determined through orthogonal experiment and the influence of solvent fraction components of mesophase pitch on compressive strength of MgO C sample brick was approached. The contrast tests between mesophase pitch and phenolic resin show that the compressive strength at high temperature of sample brick using mesophase pitch as the binder is much higher than that of using phenolic resin as binder. The results of these experiments are in correspondence with each other.
