Abstract:
Melt grafting of glycidyl methacrylate(GMA) grafted onto polypropylene(PP) was studied using a Thermal Haake. The results showed that the grafting efficiency of GMA increased because the absorbed liquid monomers and various compositions could be well dispersed into PP powder. By adding styrene as the comonomer, the grafting efficiency increased also, and the degradation of PP was restrained. Under optimum conditions, the graft efficiency is up to 94.0% with the lowest melt flow rate obtained by studying the amount of styrene(St) and initiator and the reaction temperature. The optimum conditions are 12 g St, 12 g GMA and 1.4 g cumyl peroxide (DCP) on the base of 100 g PP powder at 170 ℃.
