Abstract:
Vinyl ester resin, BEM-3, is synthesized by reacting 2,2'(4, 4'-dihydtoxyethyl phenol) propane with unsaturated acid, such as methacrylic acid. Then the linear chain polymer formed is disolved in styrene. BEM-3 can be cured at room temperature and moulded without pressure. Analysing the structure of BEM-3, and determining the properties of cured BEM-3 and its glass reinforced plastics, these results show that the new method is successful. This method is not only simplifying the process, decreasing cost, developing a new way to synthesize vinyl ester resin, but also increasing the heat and corrosion resistance of the resin.
