Abstract:
The phenomena of reaction induced mixing in reaction injection moulding has been analysed theoretically.Expressions for fluid velocities near infinite interface were obtained by variableseparation method. It was found that the gradient of concentration of the initial product and that of temperature led to interfacial tension gradient, which was responsible for the presence of spontaneous mixing near interface. The structure of initial product had a significant effect on spontaneous mixing.Ignoring the change of viscosity in the reaction,we could reason out that the faster the reaction, the greater the difference between reactant viscosities and the larger the disturbance wavenumber, the stronger the spontaneous mixing. That the reactants of low viscosity always dispersed into the reactants of high viscosity could also be explained by the velocity expression.
