Abstract:
In order to study the effect of tipping paper air permeability on medium cigarettes, the mainstream smoke components were analyzed and the combustion temperature parameters of cigarettes were tested with infrared thermal imager. The results showed that with the increase of tipping paper air permeability, the content of mainstream smoke components including TPM (total particulate matter), water, tar, nicotine and CO decreased, but puff increased. Good linear relationships between air permeability and per mouth release of TPM, water, tar and CO were obtained, and the per mouth release of nicotine hardly changed. With the increase of air permeability on tipping paper, the sensory quality of smoke characteristics decreased and the taste characteristics first increased and then decreased. In terms of aroma characteristics, with the increase of air permeability, the aroma and harmonization decreased obviously and the offensive taste first increased and then decreased. With the increase of tipping paper air permeability, the highest burning temperature, average value of the highest burning temperature, average burning temperature and average peak value of the temperatures decreased, and the average smoldering temperature remained unchanged. The ventilation of cigarette filter was changed with the air permeability of tipping paper, which not only diluted the mainstream smoke, but also reduced the combustion temperature of tobacco. Maintaining the overall aroma characteristics and smoke characteristics, the air permeability of tipping paper can be improved to reduce part of the offensive taste and irritancy so as to improve smoking amenity.
